author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22Mickael%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Tanter%22%7D%5D%2C%22abstractNote%22%3A%22Hemodynamic%20changes%20in%20the%20brain%20are%20often%20used%20as%20surrogates%20of%20neuronal%20activity%20to%20infer%20the%20loci%20of%20brain%20activity.%20A%20major%20limitation%20of%20conventional%20Doppler%20ultrasound%20for%20the%20imaging%20of%20these%20changes%20is%20that%20it%20is%20not%20sensitive%20enough%20to%20detect%20the%20blood%20flow%20in%20small%20vessels%20where%20the%20major%20part%20of%20the%20hemodynamic%20response%20occurs.%20Here%2C%20we%20present%20a%20%5Cu00b5Doppler%20ultrasound%20method%20able%20to%20detect%20and%20map%20the%20cerebral%20blood%20volume%20%28CBV%29%20over%20the%20entire%20brain%20with%20an%20important%20increase%20in%20sensitivity.%20This%20method%20is%20based%20on%20imaging%20the%20brain%20at%20an%20ultrafast%20frame%20rate%20%281%5Cu202fkHz%29%20using%20compounded%20plane%20wave%20emissions.%20A%20theoretical%20model%20demonstrates%20that%20the%20gain%20in%20sensitivity%20of%20the%20%5Cu00b5Doppler%20method%20is%20due%20to%20the%20combination%20of%201%29%20the%20high%20signal-to-noise%20ratio%20of%20the%20gray%20scale%20images%2C%20resulting%20from%20the%20synthetic%20compounding%20of%20backscattered%20echoes%3B%20and%202%29%20the%20extensive%20signal%20averaging%20enabled%20by%20the%20high%20temporal%20sampling%20of%20ultrafast%20frame%20rates.%20This%20%5Cu00b5Doppler%20imaging%20is%20performed%20in%20vivo%20on%20trepanned%20rats%20without%20the%20use%20of%20contrast%20agents.%20The%20resulting%20images%20reveal%20detailed%20maps%20of%20the%20rat%20brain%20vascularization%20with%20an%20acquisition%20time%20as%20short%20as%20320%5Cu202fms%20per%20slice.%20This%20new%20method%20is%20the%20basis%20for%20a%20real-time%20functional%20ultrasound%20%28fUS%29%20imaging%20of%20the%20brain.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%2203%5C%2F2013%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22en%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1109%5C%2FTUFFC.2013.2592%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%220885-3010%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22http%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fieeexplore.ieee.org%5C%2Fdocument%5C%2F6470411%5C%2F%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22GSDRE8AN%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222022-02-22T18%3A34%3A16Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D

Multiparametric%20imaging%20is%20a%20fast-growing%20field%2C%20especially%20for%20applications%20such%20as%20cancer%20diagnosis.%20Developing%20multiparametric%20imaging%20sequences%20and%20the%20associated%20post-processing%20often%20requires%20finding%20trade-offs%20between%20the%20constraints%20of%20different%20techniques%2C%20imaging%20quality%20and%20imaging%20time.%20As%20a%20consequence%2C%20phantoms%20capable%20of%20capturing%20different%20tissue%20parameters%20in%20the%20same%20location%20are%20becoming%20crucial%20to%20testing%20and%20optimizing%20such%20sequences%20without%20a%20change%20in%20setup.%20Thanks%20to%20recently%20developed%20techniques%2C%20ultrasound%20imaging%20today%20enables%20the%20measurement%20of%20tissue%20rigidity%2C%20structure%20and%20blood%20flow%2C%20but%20concurrent%20imaging%20is%20still%20under%20development.%20The%20aim%20of%20this%20study%20was%20therefore%20to%20design%20and%20evaluate%20an%20ultrasound%20phantom%20combining%20these%20different%20aspects%20into%20the%20same%20field%20of%20view%3B%20to%20our%20knowledge%20the%20first%20in%20the%20field%20of%20ultrasound%20imaging.%5CnMethods%5CnA%20gel-based%20phantom%20was%20built%20with%20a%20rigid%20inclusion%20controlled%20by%20the%20proportion%20of%20agar.%20Blood%20flow%20was%20generated%20inside%20a%20looped%20wall-less%20vessel%20made%20by%20delicately%20removing%20a%20thin%20catheter%20after%20gel-setting.%20Tissue%20orientation%20was%20obtained%20by%20mixing%20magnetic%20particles%20in%20the%20phantom%20gel%20and%20controlling%20their%20orientation%20during%20setting%20with%20external%20magnets.%20The%20phantom%20was%20characterized%20in%20terms%20of%20tissue%20rigidity%20values%20measured%20with%20shear%20wave%20elastography%2C%20vessel%20diameter%20measured%20with%20ultrasensitive%20Doppler%20imaging%20and%20tissue%20orientation%20measured%20with%20backscatter%20tensor%20imaging.%5CnResults%5CnExcellent%20image%20contrast%20was%20obtained%20for%20rigidity%20and%20flow%20imaging%2C%20and%20clearly%20oriented%20tissue%20structure%20was%20visible%20with%20backscatter%20tensor%20imaging.%20The%20tissue%20rigidity%20ratio%20between%20the%203-D%20inclusion%20and%20matrix%20was%20within%2012%25%20of%20the%20theoretical%20value%2C%20the%20vessel%20diameter%20measured%20in%203-D%20was%20within%203%25%20of%20the%20true%20value%20and%20tissue%20scatterer%20orientation%20was%20validated%20visually%20against%20histological%20phantom%20slabs.%5CnConclusion%5CnThis%20phantom%20provides%20not%20only%20a%20framework%20for%203-D%20multiparametric%20ultrasound%20evaluation%2C%20but%20could%20also%20be%20used%20as%20a%20more%20clinically%20realistic%20alternative%20to%20some%20standard%20phantoms.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222025-10-23%22%2C%22section%22%3A%22%22%2C%22partNumber%22%3A%22%22%2C%22partTitle%22%3A%22%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1016%5C%2Fj.ultrasmedbio.2025.07.030%22%2C%22citationKey%22%3A%22%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fwww.sciencedirect.com%5C%2Fscience%5C%2Farticle%5C%2Fpii%5C%2FS0301562925003011%22%2C%22PMID%22%3A%22%22%2C%22PMCID%22%3A%22%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%220301-5629%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%2294NJIV78%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222025-11-20T10%3A32%3A37Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
