Science, art and infinite zoom

What do researchers of Institute Physics for Medicine Paris and artist Vaskange have in common? An engineering background, a taste for geek culture… but above all the same passion for infinite zooming and scrutinizing tiny details in pictures! We have asked Vaskange to illustrate the research conducted in our lab on ultrasound microscopy. Enjoy the result of this art & science collaboration!

The creativity of illustrator Vaskange is as unlimited as his infinite drawings: he composes vast universes that you can explore by zooming endlessly in it. When discovering vaskange.world, we could not help but sense the parallel between his infinite zoom, and our work on ultrasound microscopy: we are developing an imaging method allowing to zoom in the body, and more specifically in the vasculature, down to micron-sized blood vessels. In this video, Vaskange is illustrating how this ultrasound localization microscopy technique could be used in hospitals in the near future: capturing and quantifying the blood streams in the brain, from the largest arteries down to the smallest capillaries, to understang the mechanisms of neurological disorders.
