Béatrice Berthon-Walker obtains an ERC Starting Grant
Béatrice Berthon-Walker has obtained an ERC Starting Grant to improve the diagnosis of breast cancer using 3D multiparametric ultrasound. Her project MUSCAD aims to offer an alternative to biopsies by leveraging the capacities of 3D ultrasound imaging to non-invasively assess the tumor mechanical and vascular properties. The project will start in early 2025 and will last five years.
Béatrice Berthon-Walker and her team will develop a clinical ultrasound scanner capable to map the tissular and vascular structure of the tumors, as well as machine learning algorithms to process these multiparametric data. Clinical studies will be conducted in collaboration with Institut Curie (Paris, France), a French reference center for cancer treatment.
The ERC (European Research Council) Starting Grants are awarded to young researchers following a competitive selection process. The success rate is around 15%, with 400 projects selected amongst 2696 applications.
