Le GdR Méphy organise une journée thématique sur les systèmes composés de trois phases ou trois composantes: par exemple une phase solide (e.g. des grains, particules ou micro-organisme, une membrane, etc.) et deux phases fluides (e.g. un liquide et un gaz, deux liquides non-miscibles), ou bien deux types de particules mécaniquement différents dans un fluide. On trouve de tels exemples dans les mousses chargées en particules, les granulaires immergés, les sols et milieux géologiques, mais aussi les systèmes physico-chimiques ou vivants.

The GdR Méphy is organising a thematic meeting on systems composed of three phases or three components: for example one solid phase (e.g. grains, particles or micro-organism, a membrane, etc.) and two fluid phases (e.g. a liquid and a gas, two immiscible liquids), or two mechanically different types of particles in a fluid. Such examples can be found in particle-laden foams, submerged granular materials, soils and geological environments, but also in physical-chemical or living systems.

RENCONTRE DU NON-LINÉAIRE (RNL 2022) du 29 au 31 mars 2022 à Paris, Université de Paris

La Rencontre du Non-Linéaire rassemble tous les ans la communauté travaillant sur la dynamique non linéaire (hydrodynamique, optique, plasmas, mécanique, mathématiques appliquées, physico-chimie, biophysique, …).
La 25e Rencontre du Non-Linéaire 2022 aura lieu les 29, 30 et 31 mars 2022 à l’Université de Paris, à l’amphithéâtre Buffon, 15 rue Hélène Brion, Paris 13e.La RNL2022 aura lieu en personne avec présentation d’une preuve de vaccination complète.

RENCONTRE DU NON-LINÉAIRE (RNL 2021) from 29 to 31 March 2022 at Paris, Université de Paris

The « Rencontre du Non-Linéaire (RNL)” gathers every year the community working on nonlinear dynamics (hydrodynamics, optics, plasmas, mechanics, applied mathematics, physical chemistry, biophysics, dynamical systems, …).
The 25th RNL 2022 will take place on March 29, 30 and 31, 2022 at the University of Paris, in the amphitheater Buffon, 15 rue Hélène Brion, 75 013 Paris.RNL2022 will take place in-person with presentation of the fully vaccination record.

Dear colleages,

For their 41st edition, the « Journées de Physique Statistique » will take place on Thursday Jan 27 – Friday Jan 28 2022 at ENS Paris. They will consist of eight 30 minute long presentations, the rest of the time being devoted to flash talks as in previous editions.

Here are essential informations:

1. The meeting is informal, and no financial support is available.

2. Given the brevity of the flash talks (~4 minutes), only the essence of the problem and main results can be presented, without entering into the details.

3. Participation is free. Only those intending to present a flash talk should register.

4. Deadline for registration ( https://jstat.phys.ens.fr/ ) is Dec 20 2021.

5. Participants who subscribe for flash talks will be recontacted to upload their slides. The corresponding file will have to be sent in pdf format before Jan 20 2022.

6. The program will be available on Jan 20 2022.

We point your attention to the Mini-Symposium Mechanics and Physics of Structures   at European Solids Mechanics Conference (Galway-Ireland,4-8 July 2022), which we find very relevant to the MePhy community.

MS- 3-5 – Mechanics and Physics of Structures       

The past years have seen a renewed interest from the Physics community in Solid Mechanics. Condensed-Matter Physicists, for example, are sometimes revisiting problems of Mechanics and Materials understood to be “classical” by Mechanical Engineers. Such an interest has brought a reinvigorating stimulus to the Solid Mechanics community in the area of geometrically non-linear problems of thin or slender structures, meta- and programmable materials and actuators, multi-physics interactions (surface tension, fluid-structure, magneto- or electrostatic coupling, responsive materials such as liquid-crystal elastomers), singularities and localization, deployable structures, fracture path stability. An example is “Buckling”, which was often viewed as problematic for the operation of elastic structures but is now exploited in the design of structures that deliberately change shape while retaining structural integrity. Entertaining the notion of shape-change by itself has permitted intrigue beyond the mechanical world into ever-changing biological structures. Understanding Nature’s principles of growth and form has subsequently inspired the development of synthetic “soft matter” for broader applications and applied solutions where traditional methods had faltered. There is much to be discovered or “rediscovered” in bringing together, again, the research communities from Solid Mechanics and Physics. By themselves, they have their own approaches and paradigms, but they focus on the same pursuit of compact analytical models and the deep understanding of phenomena. Moreover, they gather around common tools, from nonlinear mathematics, precise desktop experiments, to computational software including finite element analysis and computer graphics. Our mini-symposium therefore encourages our colleagues and friends to celebrate structures and their remarkable performances in a broad range of settings and applications.

Une réunion générale du GDR PhyP aura lieu à Carry-Le-Rouet (au bord de la mer, sur la Côte Bleue près de Marseille) les 29-31 mars 2022. L’objectif de ces journées sera de rassembler la communauté de “Biophysique et biomécanique des plantes” autour de présentations scientifiques couvrant l’ensemble des thématiques du GDR. Ces journées sont ouvertes à toute personne intéressée et le GDR prendra en charge les repas et le logement sur place dans la limite de la capacité du centre (environ 60 personnes). En cas d’un plus grand nombre d’inscription, priorité sera donnée aux personnes donnant une présentation et les premiers arrivés seront les premiers servis.

Mark your calendars!
A general meeting of the GDR PhyP will take place in Carry-Le-Rouet (on the seaside, on the Côte Bleue near Marseille) on March 29-31, 2022. The objective of these days will be to gather the « Biophysics and biomechanics of plants” community around scientific presentations covering all the topics of the GDR. These days are open to any interested person and the GDR will take in charge the meals and the accommodation on the spot within the limit of the capacity of the center (approximately 60 people). In the case of a larger number of registrations, priority will be given to those giving a presentation and the first come, first served.
