My research focuses on problems concerning the transition to turbulence in shear flows.
In particular we use ideas from dynamical systems theory to understand transient turbulence. Recently our focus has been understanding localization by incorporating ideas from the pattern formation literature. In both fields symmetry breaking bifurcations can lead to localization of exact solutions.
