In typical systems, the length of the fiber is more 10^7 times greater that the wavelength. It is then unrealistic to perform precise numerical simulations to characterize the effect of deformations or perturbations in the fiber. However, the best way to learn how light propagates in an optical system is to measure it.  As in any linear system, this can be done by measuring its transmission matrix.  The goal of this part is to create an accurate simulation model for multimode fibers based on a database of measurements. It will allow to easily simulate the propagation of light in any multimode fiber system in order to test and study optical MIMO strategies.
